Our Westside Grovely U13 Div 3 North Boys team and Div 4 North Girls team (aka U13s Phoenix) have had a decent start to their first season of competition playing Rounds 1-3 during March.
The Phoenix had a bye in Round 1, went down 6-1 to UQFC playing the game short a player in Round 2, and redeemed themselves in Round 3 with a nil-all draw at home against Newmarket.
In Round 1, the boys had an amazing start to the season. It was fantastic to see the execution of a number of skills from the training paddock delivered in a game situation. Excellent contribution from the entire team defending as a team, delivering passes to feet as well as players running into space and plenty of assist to create scoring opportunities. The final score was 8-nil with the Player of the Day going to Rhys, with an honourable mention to Tobi. Favourite player quote “I can see how much easier it is when I get my head up…”
In Round 2, after a long drive to Bribie Island, we had a tough game ahead of us with no subs on a warm morning. The team showed fantastic spirit, endurance, patience and continued to execute skills practised at training in a game situation. We came away with a 3-1 win, scoring a couple of well set up goals, as well as a scrambled corner forced own goal. We only conceded the one, from a very-well taken penalty. The Player of the Day was our goalkeeper, Hunter, who stopped at least 6 other scoring opportunities.
Round 3 saw the boys go down 3-2 in a closely-fought match against Toowong.
