Last weekend for the 3rd Place Play-off match between the Matilda’s and Sweden in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, twelve Westside U12s & U13s players had the amazing opportunity to carry the National Team Flags as part of the pre-game Ceremony.

Our Junior Coordinator, Shane, along with our Club Women’s Ambassadors Kelly P and Kelly C (Chappy), were also FIFA Chaperones for the kids during the event and spent the afternoon at Suncorp (Brisbane) Stadium preparing for the match – it was super exciting!

The kids received a high-five from Matilda’s Coach Tony Gustavsson and plenty of waves and smiles from Sam Kerr and the Matilda’s before leading them out onto the field. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many and Westside is thankful for the opportunity provided by Football Queensland & Football Australia to be involved in the event!

Whilst the result didn’t go the way of the Matilda’s, they did themselves and the Country proud and have lifted the profile of Women’s & Girl’s Football for the future! #TilItsDone
