Juniors (U13-U17s)
Metro Divisional football is an age group competition administered by Football Queensland for age levels U13 to U16 in an 11-a-side format. Westside Grovely FC fields teams from Division 1 to Division 5 depending on annual registration numbers.
Westside traditionally runs grading sessions for the Metro Juniors in January. Experienced coaching staff then select squads for the upcoming season. Training will either be one or two nights per week depending on team division.
Metro Divisional football is played either on Saturdays or Sundays depending on the age group and Football Queensland scheduling with a home and away ground format. Training is held midweek evenings. Metro Divisional teams have dedicated volunteer coaches. Westside is committed to developing these coaches through grass roots coaching courses or by financially supporting attendance at coaching courses run by Football Queensland.
Under 13s is the first year of Competition football, with standings and finals played. Teams will participate in Football Queensland grading games held in February to ensure they are placed into appropriate divisions and there is a similar standard amongst the Competition. The Season typically commences in March, with 18 games played running until the end of School Term 3 (early September). There is a 2-3 week break for June/July School holidays, but sometimes these weeks can be utilised as catch-up games if there are weeks of wash-outs.
Registration fees include:
- Westside kit comprising of training shirt, playing shorts and socks. Westside provides playing jerseys for all players, but these are not kept by players and are returned to the Coaches/Managers at the end of the Season.
- Club administration & running costs (ie. field maintenance incl electrical/water costs)
- Membership to Westside Grovely Football Club
- Fees and Registration with Football Queensland & Football Federation of Australia (paid in Squadi)
- Basic Player Insurance cover
- End of season trophies & end of season Trophy Day
- Regular season Referee fees
- Team Photo for all teams
Junior Grading Process & Team Placement
Assessment of player ability is based on player performance at grading sessions and advice from Club Coaches. Where possible all players should play in their correct age competition, i.e. U13’s play in U13. However, some players may need to play up a grade due to player numbers in an age group.
It is important to note that team make up is not completely finalised until teams are announced and confirmed. The intention of grading is to place players into teams with teammates of a similar skill level and to enter each team in a division of the competition that is appropriate to their skill level.
Getting in the right team is far more important than getting in the top team. Westside values all of its members regardless of their level of skill and experience.
Training Nights
Most teams train for 1hr during the week, with higher division teams training for 1.25-1.5hrs.
U13s train on Tuesday & Thursday nights 5:30pm start on Westside Field 2.
U14s train on Monday & Wednesday nights 5:30pm start on Westside Field 3.
U15s train on Monday & Wednesday nights 5:30pm start on Westside Field 2.
Refer to Westside Junior Training schedule for field allocations:
